The Art of Attention, Yoga, Meditation & Illustration
A workshop by Eloisa Iskander (Yoga) & Ellen Oosterhof (Illustration)
A three-hour workshop exploring how mindful attention can deepen the creative process. Through yoga, meditation, observational drawing, and illustration, you’ll discover how slowing down changes the way you see. By observing with curiosity and creating intuitively, you’ll develop a personal illustration inspired by both your surroundings and your own experience. No previous experience in yoga or drawing is required.
What We’ll Explore
Yoga Session: Preparing the Eye to See
A gentle yoga and breathing practice to slow down, ground the body, and cultivate presence. Through mindful movement, conscious breathing, and moments of stillness, we shift our attention away from the busyness of the mind and towards the body and our surroundings.
The practice invites us to become more sensitive to what is often overlooked: subtle sensations, sounds, shapes, textures, light, and patterns. By learning to observe without judgement and with greater curiosity, we create a state of attention that naturally leads into the creative process of drawing and illustration.
From Observation to Illustration
You will be guided to make observational sketches inspired by your surroundings, without judgement. From there, we connect these external observations with the inner world that has been opened through the yoga and meditation. You’ll explore different art materials, create a personal colour palette, and experiment with colour and composition. Finally, you’ll develop an intuitive illustration of the place—one that moves beyond reality and reflects your own perspective and experience.
All art materials are included, along with healthy snacks and tea.
Please bring your own yoga mat if you have one.
