About this course

Academic Training in Classical Drawing

Are you a beginning student and wish to improve your drawing skills? Or do you already have extensive experience with drawing and painting and wish to deepen your knowledge of classical drawing techniques? Then you are most welcome to participate in my program.

Like grandmasters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo, we focus on model drawing. Indeed, the human body is one of the most complex subjects to master. It challenges us to study drawing concepts, such as the correct rendering of proportions and tonality, but also trains our perception. Lessons learned are universal and can later be applied to other genres, such as landscape or Still Life.

The direction “academic training in classical drawing” consists of two years: a first year (model drawing) and a second year (portrait drawing), each divided into three courses. Experience shows that students make the greatest progress when the course is completed in chronological order. However, if you wish to take only one section from the program, this is also possible (with the exception of the first two portrait courses).

Academic training in classical drawing: model part one Drawing from life can be an overwhelming experience. After all, the human figure consists of so many elements to consider! That’s why we start with the main concept of our model drawing classes: make sure the big shape is correct before adding information/details. A step-by-step method, anatomy lessons, working by observation sculpting lessons and a digital learning environment will help you learn this, and teach you how to depict something true to nature.

During this course, you will receive:

  • Training based on observation using live models
  • Anatomy classes so we can learn to understand what we’re drawing
  • A digital learning environment with access to weekly homework assignments, anatomy presentations, and background information
  • A clear explanation of the stages of the traditional drawing process
  • An understanding of the key drawing concepts and how to apply them

The course is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists who wish to delve deeper into the classical drawing tradition.
