It is no exaggeration to say that drawing is the cornerstone of all the visual arts, especially the ability to sketch based on our perception.
Given that things often escape our notice, observation is something that can be learned. During the masterclass ‘drawing the classical Still Life’, we take the time to get to know/‘see’ the subject better and better so that we can reproduce it. In other words: we learn to draw what we see and not what we think we see!
During this process, we also learn a lot about the basic concepts of drawing. Namely: rendering proper proportions, matching tonal values, achieving likeness in our work, using a layer-over-layer technique with charcoal and creating depth in our drawing. These principles are universal and can be applied to other genres later on.
We work according to the sight size method. This is a technique that we are seeing more and more in the large renowned classical schools as well as the studios that have emerged from them. It allows us to work very precisely and recognize any proportional errors early in the process.
This week-long master class is therefore really intended for people who would like to immerse themselves completely in the classical drawing process and, in this way, learn more about fundamental concepts that are important for drawing and painting.
A delicious organic lunch will be served each day. This is included in the course fee.
